Treatment for correcting an underbite
Treatment for correcting an underbite
ABSTRACT
A 46-year-old female patient presented for an orthodontic examination requesting treatment for an underbite in the frontal region, which was causing an obvious aesthetic defect.
Clinical and cephalometric examination revealed a skeletal and dental Class II on a hypodivergent basis with a dental Class I. An anterior crossbite is present associated with dental and labial biprotrusion, with a space discrepancy in both arches. The anterior Bolton Index analysis was 81.1%, indicating the possibility of performing a lower level stripping.
The space requirement was quantified as 2.92 mm in the upper arch and 3.48 mm in the lower arch, necessary for the correction of dental protrusion and improvement of the labial profile.
The primary therapeutic objective is the resolution of the anterior reverse bite through alignment and incisal reentry, with attention to the aesthetic balance of the profile and occlusal functionality.
